'Full command, maturity and defined sense of style.'
José Eduardo Martins
On the occasion of Vianna da Motta’s 150th birthday, Portuguese pianist Marta Menezes presents a recital in tribute to one of the most influencial figures of Portuguese pianism. As one of Franz Liszt’s last pupils, Vianna da Motta had contact with the great artists of his time during the years he spent living in Germany, and throughout his life performed extensively around the world. Apart from being a great pianist, he was also a composer, a pedagogue, a music critic and the author of several articles about piano technique and musical interpretation. In this recital, Marta Menezes will perform works by composers who frequently appeared on his recital programs and with whom he was associated as being a great interpreter, as well as works by Vianna da Motta himself.
A multi-award-winner and international soloist, Marta Menezes is recognized as a leading ambassador for Portuguese repertoire, including several world premieres. In 2015 she released her first CD with works by Beethoven and Portuguese composer Lopes-Graça which was awarded the prize Global Music Awards in the USA Silver Medal for Outstanding Achievement, in the categories Classical Piano and Emerging Artist.
