PRACTICAL INFO

Participants join the workshop remotely via Zoom, which requires access to a stable internet connection.

Participants will be on 'mute' during all sessions, and will not be able to hear each other, but will instead sing along to a master recording where they will be able to hear the other parts.

The musical score will be made available on-screen during the workshop free of charge, but if you prefer to purchase a printed score of your own, we recommend the following edition, which is available at Presto Music HERE

Please note that during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, event details may change. We recommend clicking back here nearer the date of the concert for any updates.

Did you know that choir practice is healthier than yoga?

If you are an amateur singer passionate about classical music, treat yourself to an uplifting workshop on 27 November and see what this feel-good choral craze is all about – it's the perfect opportunity to exercise and socialise! (No prior choral experience necessary.) This year, we are offering a special pandemic-proof edition of our annual Come&Sing event as a virtual gathering on Zoom.

In celebration of the 2021 centenary of Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez (1921-2010), this one-day workshop will explore his popular Misa criolla - a 16-minute mass in five movements in Spanish written using various Argentine folk music idioms. With its compelling tunes and foot-tapping rhythms, it's not difficult to understand why the original recording of the work sold in the millions. The piece would go on to be recorded by the likes of Placido Domingo, José Carreras and Mercedes Sosa, and was also conducted by Ramírez for a performance before Pope Paul VI.

You’ll be amazed how quickly you can learn a new piece with the help of our friendly conductor Mariana Rosas - one of Argentina's most sought-after choral directors. In addition to a busy international career, she is currently Music Director of the Colla Voce Chamber Choir and Birmingham City Council Choir, Conductor of the London Youth Choirs Girls’ Choir, and Choral Director at the City of London School for Girls. She also works regularly with the Royal Opera House in London, Birmingham Opera Company, West Midlands Inclusive Choir, and Crouch End Festival Chorus.
