'The Exiled Guitar':
Spanish Guitar Music
King's College London Chapel
The UK's first and only annual Festival of Latin classical music
is back in London this Autumn
10 OCT - 16 NOV 2019
Banish those Autumn blues and let yourself be carried away to the sunnier climes of Iberia and Latin America at Echoes Festival 2019, as we bring you some sizzling music performed by the hottest talent in Latin classical.
Echoes Festival was launched in 2016 as the new flagship project of ILAMS (the Iberian and Latin American Music Society), in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute. Now in its 4th year, the Festival has brought unique classical Iberican programming to some of London's most prestigious venues, whilst providing a platform to some of the most authentic and illustrious voices within Latin classical music today.
In 2019 there is much to celebrate: the big event this year is the 400th anniversary of Mexican composer Juan García de Zéspedes, and we also mark the centenary of Brazilian composer Cláudio Santoro, as well as those of Cuban composer María Alvarez Ríos and Brazilian composer, Hilda Pires dos Reis as part of a new
strand of events on 15th Nov showcasing the forgotten voices of women Latina composers: Mujeres: ¡Presentes! We've teamed up with King's College London to offer a new Young Talents educational platform with free open masterclasses on 19th Oct, whilst we continue our collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music to promote contemporary music and living composers on 1 Nov. And for all those record collectors out there, Ray Picot will be presenting a new music appreciation event on 24th Oct titled Ray's Round-Up LIVE!, focusing on the music of Enrique Granados. As ever, we are delighted to form part of Amigo Month - a 5-week period of events celebrating the history, culture and contribution of the UK’s three million Spanish/Portuguese speakers.
This year there are more ways than ever to get involved in Echoes Festival: babies and toddlers can enjoy our Bilingual Beats musical Spanish class on 29th Oct; whilst amateur singers can take part in our Mexican Baroque Come & Sing workshop on 16th Nov. On 14th Nov we are excited to be launching a new immersive Arts&Well-being concert in tandem with Piano-Yoga®, and we are proud to be furthering our charity and outreach work with community music group, the Vivace Chorus, on 9th Nov, in aid of the mental health non-profit, Mind.
Echoes Festival 2019 has something for everyone: whether you're into Early music or contemporary composers; choral repertoire or piano concerts; whether you're interested in exploring the more serious reaches of the repertoire or you want to indulge your lighter side... This Festival is for you. We can't wait to see you there!
